With decades of experience delivering critical infrastructure projects and a growing portfolio of water and wastewater contracts nationwide, the company continues to invest in its Automation and Controls division to support future growth.
Due to continued expansion, they are seeking an Automation Engineer to join their team based in Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo.
The Role: Automation Engineer
The successful candidate will join a growing Automation Team delivering control and automation solutions for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities across Ireland.
Reporting to the Automation Manager, you will initially work alongside experienced automation specialists before progressing to lead automation projects independently.
The role offers excellent exposure to PLC programming, SCADA systems, industrial networking, commissioning, troubleshooting, and control system development while working on essential infrastructure projects throughout Ireland.
Must Have Requirements
You are a technically strong Automation Engineer who enjoys solving complex control and process challenges.
You have experience working with PLCs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, and automation technologies and enjoy seeing projects progress from design through commissioning and operational handover.
You are self-motivated, organised, and capable of working both independently and within multidisciplinary project teams.

Must Have Requirements
- Level 8 Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in automation, control systems, or industrial engineering environments.
- Strong PLC programming experience using Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider Electric, Omron, ABB, or similar platforms.
- Experience with SCADA systems including AVEVA or equivalent software.
- Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Full clean Irish or EU driving licence.
- Experience within water treatment, wastewater treatment, utilities, manufacturing, or industrial process environments.
- Knowledge of industrial communications and networking protocols.
- Experience carrying out FAT, SAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Experience supporting live operational facilities and critical infrastructure environments.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills.
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming and modern automation architectures.
- Experience with telemetry systems and remote monitoring solutions.
- Exposure to industrial cybersecurity and network infrastructure.
- Knowledge of process control systems and optimisation techniques.
- Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and development of automation and control solutions for water and wastewater projects.
- Develop, modify, and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, telemetry, and control system software.
- Design, install, test, and commission PLC and HMI control systems.
- Support SCADA and telemetry system development and integration.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, commissioning records, and technical reports.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities.
- Provide troubleshooting and technical support during commissioning and operational phases.
- Liaise with equipment suppliers and system vendors to identify and implement effective automation solutions.
- Support maintenance and troubleshooting activities for existing clients and facilities.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, process, and project delivery teams.
- Contribute to the standardisation and continuous improvement of automation systems across the business.
- Support project delivery activities while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
