Salary £75000 DOE plus great package
The Company
This opportunity is with a well established international engineering contractor delivering complex power transmission, renewable energy and high voltage substation projects across the UK and Europe.
With a strong secured pipeline of grid infrastructure and HV substation works for the next five years, the business is a recognised leader in power and renewables construction. They are trusted by major utilities and tier one clients to deliver 110kV to 400kV substations, transmission upgrades and critical energy infrastructure safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.
The Role Project Planner
As Project Planner, you will be a key member of the planning team supporting the delivery of high voltage substation and power transmission projects across Scotland and the wider UK.
Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers and Commercial teams, you will develop, manage and control detailed construction programmes from pre construction through to commissioning. You will understand the sequencing, logistics and risk profile of electrical infrastructure builds and play a central role in ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
This is a position suited to a planner who thrives in fast paced grid environments and can confidently challenge, negotiate and influence programme outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Review contract documentation and identify schedule and reporting obligations
• Develop detailed construction programmes based on target schedules and WBS structures
• Labour load programmes in line with commercial budgets and produce S curves
• Support and participate in main contractor and client programme negotiations
• Integrate subcontractor and direct works into a fully coordinated master schedule
• Measure and track weekly progress and productivity with site and commercial teams
• Provide spent versus earned man hour analysis and estimate at completion forecasts
• Produce two week look ahead programmes and drop line schedules
• Identify programme risks, constraints and sequencing issues and support mitigation plans
• Facilitate look ahead and planning meetings with site management
• Maintain, revise and control schedules throughout the project lifecycle
• Produce internal and external progress reports and dashboards
About You
• Third level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Quantity Surveying or Construction Management, or strong technical trade background
• 3 to 5 years experience in construction planning, ideally within HV substations, power transmission or renewables
• Strong understanding of high voltage substation construction and electrical infrastructure sequencing
• Proficient in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
• Experienced in labour loading, S curves, progress measurement and performance reporting
• Commercially aware and able to align programme with cost control
• Strong communicator with the confidence to engage with site teams and senior management
• Organised, analytical and proactive in identifying and escalating risks
