The Role – Mechanical Engineer
This is a site-based Mechanical Engineer role focused on the delivery of mechanical building services on a major data centre project in Portugal. You will take ownership of mechanical coordination, technical delivery, and installation quality, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on programme, and to specification.
Working closely with project managers, subcontractors, and the wider MEP team, you will play a key role from early construction through to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all mechanical works are delivered in line with health and safety standards
- Coordinate mechanical services installation with other trades to ensure seamless integration
- Manage design reviews, technical submittals, and material approvals
- Prepare and review method statements and risk assessments
- Monitor programme progress and support sequencing of mechanical installations
- Oversee subcontractors and ensure quality standards are consistently achieved
- Manage procurement of mechanical equipment and specialist subcontractors
- Track and document variations, supporting commercial reporting and cost control
- Support commissioning activities and ensure smooth project handover
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or strong trade background with relevant experience
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering within MEP or construction environments
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, pipework, and mechanical services
- Experience working on large-scale construction projects, ideally data centres
- Ability to manage design coordination and technical delivery on site
- Commercial awareness with experience supporting cost control and variations
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Detail-focused with a proactive approach to problem solving and delivery
