The Role Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
As a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer, you will play a key role in bringing critical mechanical and HVAC systems to life on a large scale data centre project. Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will be hands on in the field, ensuring systems are tested, validated and operating exactly as designed.
This is a site based commissioning role focused on HVAC systems, mechanical services, functional performance testing and fault finding within a live construction environment. Your work will directly impact system reliability, client handover, and overall project success.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out hands on mechanical commissioning in line with approved commissioning plans and procedures
• Execute commissioning protocols including pressure testing, flushing, balancing, fault finding and functional performance testing
• Ensure HVAC and mechanical systems operate in accordance with design intent, specifications and performance criteria
• Witness and support vendor commissioning activities and ensure compliance with project documentation
• Conduct system inspections, readiness reviews and pre commissioning checks
• Manage the commissioning tagging and tracking process to achieve required sign off levels
• Review commissioning documentation and ensure all records are complete and compliant
• Support on site quality management and ensure works meet project standards
• Deliver commissioning activities in line with programme milestones and handover schedules
• Adhere to strict Health and Safety procedures within a mission critical construction environment
• Maintain clear communication with commissioning management, subcontractors and client representatives
About You
• Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a recognised Mechanical Trade background
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer on large construction projects
• Strong commissioning experience across HVAC systems, chilled water, heating systems and associated mechanical plant
• Experience working on data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial or large commercial projects
• Strong understanding of safe systems of work within construction environments
• Excellent fault finding and diagnostic capability
• Process driven with a strong focus on quality assurance and EHS compliance
• Confident communicator who can work effectively with vendors, subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams
• Focused on delivering systems right first time and meeting strict deadlines
