This opportunity is with a well established Irish engineering contractor delivering complex high voltage and renewable energy infrastructure projects across Ireland and Europe. Operating for over four decades, they continue to expand in the renewable energy and grid infrastructure market, delivering Design and Build substations, grid connections and balance of plant works for major wind farm developments.

The Role – Electrical Engineer 110kV Substation

This is a key role on a Design and Build 110kV substation project supporting a wind farm development in Laois. Design has commenced, with site works due to begin in June, and the successful Electrical Engineer will be involved from detailed design through to commissioning and handover.

Working in a hybrid capacity between site and office, you will take ownership of technical delivery across high voltage systems, ensuring design integrity, programme adherence and full compliance with safety and quality standards. Your input will directly impact the successful energisation and grid connection of critical renewable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and review schematic drawings and Single Line Diagrams for 110kV substation works
• Deliver detailed design of AIS and GIS substations including protection and control systems
• Integrate HV and LV systems across the substation scope
• Carry out HV system studies including protection coordination, load flow, fault level and voltage regulation analysis
• Prepare and review technical specifications and enquiry documentation for HV equipment
• Support procurement and technical evaluation of 110kV equipment
• Assemble approval and construction issue drawing packages
• Provide technical support during construction and resolve on site engineering queries
• Assist with planning, testing, pre commissioning and commissioning of AIS and GIS substations
• Prepare method statements and risk assessments in line with project requirements
• Monitor programme progress using MS Project and issue regular technical reports
• Liaise with clients, consultants, grid operators and subcontractors throughout delivery
• Ensure full compliance with project Health and Safety standards and quality procedures

About You

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum five years’ experience within the HV energy sector or renewable energy projects
• Strong background in 110kV or similar high voltage substation design and build projects
• Experience across both detailed design and site based delivery phases
• Knowledge of AIS and GIS substation systems
• Solid understanding of protection and control systems
• Hands on experience supporting commissioning of HV infrastructure
• Strong technical problem solving skills with a structured and methodical approach
• Excellent communication skills and confident coordinating multidisciplinary teams
• Organised, deadline driven and quality focused
