The Role – Lead Electrical Design Engineer
As a Lead Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within the contractor’s in house design team, leading the electrical design scope on major data centre projects from early stage design through to construction and commissioning.
You will work closely with project managers, site teams, and specialist subcontractors, ensuring designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with programme and delivery requirements. This is a leadership role with direct impact on project performance and successful delivery on site.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead electrical design delivery across large scale data centre projects
• Manage and mentor design engineers within a fast paced project environment
• Coordinate closely with construction teams to ensure buildability and programme alignment
• Ensure all designs comply with ETCI, BS7671, EN and IEC standards and relevant regulations
• Oversee design of power distribution, control systems, ICT infrastructure, security and life safety systems
• Review drawings, specifications, and technical submittals
• Liaise with clients, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors throughout project delivery
• Support procurement and value engineering processes
• Ensure quality, safety, and technical standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle
About You
• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• 5 to 7 years experience in electrical design with a strong focus on data centre or mission critical projects
• Experience working with or alongside M&E contractors on live construction projects
• Proven ability to lead design teams and coordinate with site based delivery teams
• Strong knowledge of ETCI, BS7671, EN/IEC standards and construction practices
• Proficient in design software such as Amtech, ETAP, EPLAN, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, AutoCAD and Revit/Navisworks
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Practical, solutions driven approach with a focus on delivery
• Ability to work in fast paced environments and manage multiple priorities
• Willingness to travel as required
