The Role: Health & Safety Officer
This Health & Safety Officer position is based on a major educational construction project in South Dublin, Co Dublin.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager and project leadership team, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving site safety standards throughout the construction programme. You will work closely with site management, subcontractors and project teams to ensure full compliance with all health and safety legislation, company procedures and client requirements.
The successful Health & Safety Officer will be responsible for promoting a positive safety culture while ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with regulatory requirements.
Must Have Requirements:
• Must have a recognised Health & Safety qualification relevant to the construction industry
• Proven experience required in a Health & Safety Officer role on construction projects
• Experience with a main contractor or large-scale construction environment is required
• Strong knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and construction regulations
• Full driving licence required
Preferred Experience:
• Educational, public sector or commercial project experience preferred
• Experience carrying out site audits, inspections and incident investigations
• Strong reporting and documentation skills
Nice to Have:
• Membership of IOSH, IEMA or similar professional body
• Additional construction-related qualifications
• First Aid or Manual Handling Instructor certification beneficial
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and safety observations
• Assist with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work
• Deliver site inductions and toolbox talks to employees and subcontractors
• Investigate incidents, near misses and non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
• Maintain accurate Health & Safety records and documentation
• Support site management teams in driving a proactive safety culture
• Liaise with subcontractors to ensure compliance with project safety requirements
• Attend project meetings and provide Health & Safety updates and reports
• Promote continuous improvement in Health & Safety performance across the project
About You
You will have experience working as a Health & Safety Officer on construction projects and be comfortable operating within a busy site environment.
You will possess strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with site teams, subcontractors and management while maintaining high standards of safety compliance. Attention to detail, organisation and a practical approach to problem solving are essential for success in this role.
