Package: £80,000 to £100,000 + package
The Company
This specialist contractor delivers complex lifting, heavy transport and engineered movement solutions across the UK and Europe. Working on large industrial, infrastructure, energy and data centre projects, the business has built a strong reputation for safely delivering technically demanding lifting operations on behalf of major contractors and industrial clients.
With live projects across Sweden, Germany and Ireland and a growing pipeline of work, they are now seeking an experienced General Manager to lead their Lift & Shift division from County Antrim, driving operational performance, commercial success and continued growth.
The Role: General Manager – Specialist Lifting Solutions
Based in County Antrim, you will take full responsibility for the Lift & Shift division, overseeing the planning, commercial management and successful delivery of specialist lifting, heavy transport and machinery movement projects throughout the UK and Europe.
Working closely with the Directors, you will lead experienced operational teams while ensuring every lifting package is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme, budget and client expectations. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong technical knowledge of lifting operations combined with commercial awareness and the ability to develop long-term client relationships.
From initial enquiry and site survey through to project completion, you will oversee every stage of project delivery while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and operational excellence.
Must Have Requirements:
• Significant management experience within the lifting, crane hire or heavy transport industry is essential
• Proven experience managing complex lifting projects and specialist Lift & Shift operations
• Excellent working knowledge of BS7121, LOLER, PUWER and safe lifting practices
• Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, profitability and project performance
• Full UK Driving Licence
Preferred Experience:
• CPCS Appointed Person qualification
• Lift planning experience
• IOSH or NEBOSH certification
• Project Management qualification
• Experience delivering turnkey lifting packages across industrial or infrastructure projects
Nice to Have:
• Experience in heavy machinery relocation or industrial plant installation
• Knowledge of international project delivery
• Experience working across data centres, manufacturing, energy or pharmaceutical sectors
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the day-to-day operational management of the Lift & Shift division
• Oversee specialist lifting projects from enquiry through to completion
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme and within budget
• Coordinate cranes, heavy transport, specialist lifting equipment and operational personnel
• Maximise utilisation of company assets and subcontract resources
• Manage mobilisation, logistics and project planning across multiple live projects
• Attend client and site meetings while building long-term relationships with principal contractors and project teams
• Develop practical lifting solutions through site surveys, lift planning and logistics coordination
• Ensure RAMS, lift plans and supporting documentation meet company and legislative requirements
• Work closely with Appointed Persons, Lift Supervisors and operational teams to deliver complex lifting operations
• Ensure compliance with BS7121, LOLER, PUWER, CDM Regulations and company procedures
• Support tender submissions, prepare quotations and contribute to winning new business
• Monitor project profitability, budgets and forecasts while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and margins
• Lead, mentor and develop operational teams while promoting a positive safety culture throughout the business
About You:
You are an experienced operational leader with a strong background in specialist lifting, crane hire or heavy transport. You have successfully managed complex lifting operations and understand the technical, commercial and safety requirements involved in delivering challenging projects.
You enjoy solving engineering challenges, building client relationships and leading experienced teams. Your communication skills, commercial awareness and commitment to safe project delivery make you a trusted leader capable of driving continued business growth.
