The Role – Electrical Estimator

As Electrical Estimator, you will play a key role in the preconstruction and tendering team, preparing accurate, commercially sound, and competitive electrical estimates across a range of building services projects. You will be involved from pre tender through to post tender stage, helping ensure each submission is structured correctly, aligned with company procedures, and supports successful project delivery.

This is a position that suits someone with strong technical and commercial awareness who can assess drawings, specifications, supplier pricing, subcontractor packages, and installation risks to build robust tender returns. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, helping strengthen the company’s commercial position while supporting continued growth across the UK market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely electrical estimates from pre tender to post tender stage
  • Produce detailed take offs and measures from drawings and tender documents
  • Input cost information into estimating software to build clear and structured tender submissions
  • Review tender documentation and assess technical, commercial, and construction risks
  • Issue supplier and subcontractor enquiries in line with tender deadlines
  • Review quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors to ensure compliance with specification and project requirements
  • Assist in preparing value engineering and product substitution options where appropriate
  • Maintain a consistent and organised workflow to support tender activity
  • Ensure every tender is completed in line with internal policies, standards, and estimating procedures
  • Liaise with internal departments to gather information, share best practice, and support accurate bid preparation
  • Monitor market conditions, pricing trends, competition, and workload levels to keep estimates commercially competitive
  • Review completed projects against budgeted allowances and installation times to improve future estimating accuracy
  • Support the estimating team in achieving business targets and revenue objectives through high quality tender submissions
  • Maintain strong communication with all internal and external stakeholders involved in the estimating process
  • Work with full awareness of health and safety requirements relevant to electrical and building services projects
About You
  • Experience as an Electrical Estimator or in preparing electrical estimates within the construction or building services sector
  • Background in electrical installations, building services, or MEP contracting would be a strong advantage
  • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of estimating principles, tendering processes, and commercial awareness
  • Able to read drawings, specifications, and tender packages accurately
  • Good knowledge of supplier pricing, subcontractor packages, and market rates
  • Comfortable preparing take offs, analysing costs, and working with estimating software
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across multiple teams
  • Organised, detail focused, and able to manage deadlines across several live tenders
  • Professional approach with a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements within construction and electrical projects
