Commissioning Engineer

You are an experienced Commissioning Engineer ready to take the lead on technically advanced electrical projects across Ireland. Working with a specialist engineering contractor delivering high-voltage and medium-voltage systems, you will oversee the full commissioning lifecycle — from project handover through testing, documentation, client interaction and final sign-off.

This role is suited to a motivated engineer with strong HV/MV commissioning experience who is looking to join a progressive company with an excellent pipeline of utility, industrial and energy-sector projects throughout Ireland.

Commissioning Engineer – Skills & Experience

• Strong background in electrical engineering with proven HV/MV commissioning experience.
  
  
• Excellent knowledge of Protection, Automation and Control Systems.
  
  
• Experience commissioning medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, relays, power quality meters and associated equipment.
  
  
• Proficient in the use of commissioning software tools and test equipment.
  
  
• Ability to interpret tender, design, construction and as-built drawings.
  
  
• Strong problem-solving skills, especially in high-pressure environments.
  
  
• High attention to detail, well-organised and capable of maintaining accurate records.
  
  
• Team-focused individual with excellent communication skills.
  
  

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will:

• Lead the commissioning of MV switchgear, transformers, protection relays, HV cables, metering devices and automation/HMI systems.
  
  
• Develop and implement commissioning procedures, test protocols and documentation.
  
  
• Review drawings, specifications and schedules to ensure quality, compliance and readiness for commissioning.
  
  
• Carry out Factory Acceptance Tests, Cold Commissioning and Site Acceptance Tests.
  
  
• Program and test relay I/O, settings and logic.
  
  
• Identify critical commissioning requirements, including discrimination and protection studies.
  
  
• Record commissioning progress, manage documentation and maintain project files to ISO standards.
  
  
• Report and manage commissioning non-conformances.
  
  
• Represent the client on site, supervising and witnessing commissioning activities where required.
  
  
• Liaise with clients, contractors, subcontractors and project stakeholders to ensure safe and successful project delivery.
  
  
• Support project handover, documentation review, sign-off and completion of O&M information.
