This well-established Irish engineering contractor has earned an excellent reputation for delivering mechanical, electrical and process projects across the water and wastewater sector. Working with public utilities, local authorities and industrial clients, they manage projects from design through to commissioning across Ireland.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to appoint a Project Engineer to join their team in Carlow, Co Carlow. This is a varied role offering a mix of office-based engineering and regular site visits, providing excellent long-term career progression within the water industry.
The Role: Project Engineer
As Project Engineer, you will support the successful delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects from initial design through procurement, construction, commissioning and final handover.
Working closely with the Project Manager, design engineers, site teams, subcontractors and clients, you will coordinate technical information, prepare project documentation, monitor progress and ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards.
Must Have Requirements
You are an organised and proactive Project Engineer with a strong technical background and a genuine interest in delivering engineering infrastructure projects. You enjoy working between the office and site, solving technical problems and coordinating with multiple stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

As Project Engineer, you will support the successful delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects from initial design through procurement, construction, commissioning and final handover.

Must Have Requirements
- Must have 3+ years' experience as a Project Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or Electrical Engineer within construction or utilities.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience working with contractors on engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical knowledge with excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites across Ireland.
- Experience within the water or wastewater industry would be highly advantageous.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and technical drawing review.
- Experience preparing technical submissions, method statements and risk assessments.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical installations and commissioning activities.
- Safe Pass and Manual Handling.
- Experience using Microsoft Project or similar planning software.
- Familiarity with public works contracts or utility infrastructure projects.
- Assist in the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects from design through completion.
- Coordinate design information, technical documentation and construction drawings.
- Prepare technical submissions for client approval.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotations and ensure specification compliance.
- Support procurement and scheduling of materials and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress against programme and report on key milestones.
- Assist with the preparation of method statements, risk assessments and quality documentation.
- Carry out site inspections and coordinate with site teams, subcontractors and client representatives.
- Maintain project records including document control, variation logs and safety documentation.
- Assist with commissioning activities, project handover and preparation of O&M manuals.
