Job title: Environmental Engineer – Data Centre Construction
Location: Gavleborg County, Sweden
Company: International Engineering & Construction Contractor
Package: Excellent salary and overseas package

The Company

A well-established international contractor is delivering large-scale mission critical and industrial construction projects across Northern Europe. With a strong order book and several live projects, the business has earned a reputation for delivering technically complex developments to the highest standards of quality, safety and environmental performance.

Due to continued expansion in Sweden, they are looking to appoint an Environmental Engineer to support the successful delivery of a major data centre construction project in Sandviken.

The Role: Environmental Engineer

Working closely with the Environmental Manager and the wider project delivery team, you'll play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance throughout the construction programme. You'll be visible on site every day, helping drive best practice, supporting operational teams and ensuring environmental standards are maintained across all project activities.

This is a hands-on site-based role where you'll work alongside construction managers, supervisors and subcontractors to reduce environmental impact while maintaining programme delivery.

Must Have Requirements
  • Degree or qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
  • Previous experience on large construction or civil engineering projects
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and site compliance
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely with site teams

Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience on data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial or manufacturing projects
  • Experience carrying out environmental audits and incident investigations
  • Knowledge of LEED, BREEAM or similar sustainability standards

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out regular environmental inspections across the construction site and identify areas requiring improvement
  • Monitor environmental compliance and work with site management to resolve any non-conformances
  • Prepare environmental reports, inspections and monthly performance updates
  • Support investigations into environmental incidents and ensure corrective actions are completed
  • Monitor waste segregation, recycling initiatives and overall waste management performance
  • Ensure drainage protection measures, pollution controls and water management systems remain effective
  • Coordinate spill response planning, spill kit inspections and environmental awareness initiatives
  • Review permits, licences and environmental documentation to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Participate in client environmental audits and assist with close-out of actions
  • Deliver toolbox talks and environmental briefings to site personnel
  • Review construction methodologies to ensure environmental risks have been properly assessed and controlled
  • Assist with updates to the Construction Environmental Management Plan throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support sustainability objectives by coordinating environmental records and project documentation
  • Promote a proactive environmental culture across all project teams and subcontractors
  • Work closely with Health & Safety personnel where environmental and safety risks overlap
  • Intervene where environmental practices fall below required standards and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken

About You
You'll enjoy being on site rather than behind a desk and will have the confidence to engage with construction teams at every level. You understand how environmental compliance supports successful project delivery and can build positive working relationships while maintaining high standards.

You will be organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple priorities within a busy live construction environment.

What's on Offer

Salary: Highly competitive DOE. Approx. €70,000

Benefits:
  • Overseas living allowance
  • Accommodation provided
  • Flights
  • Pension
  • Private healthcare
  • Annual bonus
  • Ongoing professional development

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a contractor with a substantial pipeline of technically challenging projects across Europe. You'll gain experience on one of Sweden's largest mission critical developments while working with experienced construction professionals in a collaborative environment.

The business places a strong emphasis on environmental performance, giving you the opportunity to influence project delivery and contribute directly to sustainable construction practices.
