Commercial Manager – Data Centre Construction | Portugal

We’re working with a leading international contractor operating in the data centre and mission-critical construction sector, currently delivering one of Europe’s largest data centre developments in Sines, Portugal. As part of a long-term programme running to 2030 and beyond, they are now seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join the senior project leadership team on site.

This is a high-impact, site-based role with responsibility for commercial strategy, financial control, procurement and team leadership on a technically complex, fast-moving project.

Reporting to the Commercial Lead, the Commercial Manager will take ownership of the project’s commercial performance, ensuring strong governance, accurate reporting and effective cost control throughout delivery.

You’ll lead and develop a commercial team on site, working closely with project leadership, clients and the supply chain to drive commercial outcomes across procurement, subcontract management and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead all commercial and procurement activities on the project
• Establish and maintain robust cost control, budget management and reporting systems
• Prepare and present detailed commercial reports to senior stakeholders
• Drive procurement strategies aligned with programme and budget objectives
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
• Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities in collaboration with project teams
• Oversee subcontractor and supplier onboarding and performance
• Ensure all commercial documentation protects contractual and financial interests
• Support timely, compliant client billing, valuations and cash flow management
• Promote consistent, contract-aligned commercial practices across the supply chain

Commercial Manager – Skills & Experience:

• Typically 10 years’ experience in a Commercial Manager or senior commercial role
• Strong background in construction, engineering or infrastructure projects
• Proven ability to lead and develop commercial teams
• Commercially astute, with strong knowledge of cost control, procurement and financial reporting
• Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills
• Comfortable working in high-pressure, fast-track project environments
• Proficient in MS Excel, Word and commercial/project management systems
• Data centre, energy, industrial or mission-critical project experience is highly advantageous

Salary & Expat Package

• Salary: €110,000 – €130,000 (DOE)
