Procurement Engineer - Civil's Main Contractor


€50,000 - €60,000 + Package

Having been recently awarded a number of large ground works projects across Leinster and Munster, a successful and growing Civil Engineering main contractor have a new opportunity, for an experienced Procurement Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

Operating all their own plant, a business based on engineering excellence, safety and respect & collaboration for their staff and clients, you’ll be joining one of Irelands highly respected civil engineering main contractors.

Based within their head offices in Co Meath, the successful candidate will come from a civil engineering background, Ideally a degree qualified Civil Engineer with purchasing experience.

Key attributes:

  • A minimum of 5 years in a construction business.
  • Candidates from an engineering, quantity surveying or estimating background are encouraged to apply
  • Knowledge in understanding Construction Plans/Drawings and Specifications with the ability to interpret for pricing.
  • A CIPS or IIPMM qualification welcomed.
  • Applicant must be able to work with a team as well as on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation, problem solving skills with experience handling complex transactions with little supervision.
  • Good Computer knowledge including experience in Purchase Order systems.


The main roles and responsibilities are:

  • Generate RFQ/RFI to Suppliers / Subcontractors based on the Specification, Drawings, Bill of Quantities at Tender stage and Contract stage.
  • Draft comparisons of rates /costs based on Quotations received from Suppliers / Subcontractors against Estimate Costs of tendered projects.
  • Issue purchase orders to Suppliers and Subcontractors.
  • Compile sub contract documents for sub contract packages for signing.
  • Produce PO reports for sites on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure that all materials are in compliance with specifications, building regulations and environmental standards.
  • Manage material supplier contracts (SLA’s) that achieve cost, delivery, quality, innovation and service targets as required by the business.
  • Negotiate pricing contracts with material suppliers.
  • Maintain procurement files and purchase agreements to an auditable standard.
  • Meet subcontractors and suppliers on-site as necessary.
  • Attend weekly management meetings with contracts managers and other members of the bid team to implement optimal pricing activity.
  • Maintain and implement construction materials budget/material schedules for each project.
  • Research new materials & suppliers for design and cost savings.
  • Apply and maintain the policies and procedures set out and adopt them accordingly.
